VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
For those of you who would like to come and check out the Tough Mudder on 5/2 please come out and Volunteer to help out with the race.
This is good for a couple of reasons:
1. You don’t have to pay to be a spectator
2. There are a couple of people who are still looking to enter the race, they need 10 Volunteers Each to do it.
3. There will be beer (afterwards) and good times had by all!
More infor should be at the link below

SIX DAYS AWAY W00T!
Good luck in the mud tomorrow everyone!
Congrats to all the Tough Mudders – everyone finished the challenge, with times ranging from 1:03 (Topper) to 2:00 flat. It was a great time… who’s in for the November TM in Englishtown NJ?
Also – Rob K and Joe hit the BSR on Sunday… how’d it go guys? Did anyone else run?
Congrats to all who did the tough mudder! Nice time Topper! Uh yeah as for me and the BSR it was not pretty, I started out really good but at mile three is when it all went to hell, I threw up (yuck) And then it was pretty much a struggle to finish for the rest of the race. I must me stopped and walked for a 1/2 mile and at mile five I almost ran home (broad st is close to my house) but I did finish with a crappy time (1:27), well off my usual pace time I run usually run at a 7:15 to 7:30 mile. I think the heat just crushed me cause I came home with a fever and was in the bathroom the whole day. I feel better today so I will probably see you guys tomorrow.
Yeah, The Broad Street Run did not go as planned for me either. I pretty much crashed and burned! I decided to wear my new Vibrams that I have have had for only 2 weeks and which I have never run longer than 400 meters in. Big mistake!
I started to develop blisters on my forefoot within the first 2 miles and It became uncomfortable to keep up my normal stride. At mile 5 I took off the Vibrams and ran barefoot for the next 3 miles. It felt so much better barefoot, but the damage had been done. There were two big blisters on the bottom of each of my feet that were becoming more and more painful with each step. I ran off to the side on the grass for a mile but it did not help much. For the last mile I put the Vibrams back on and gritted my way to the finish line.
I finished 10-15 minutes slower than I had hoped for but I never really had a chance to run the way I wanted to. I will take this a big lesson learned and will try to break in my shoes/feet better before my next race (the distance run in September maybe?).
Good job to all the Tough Mudders and to Joe as well.
Sorry to hear you didn’t do as well as you’d hoped, Joe and Rob. But based on your stories, I’m pretty darn impressed with your perseverance and determination. Nice work!
Thanks Wil, I definitely have to rethink my training methods for future races and events.
Tough break, Joe and Rob.. Topper, you continue to be a freak.. well done!
Joe and Rob… I agree with Wil… The fact that you both overcame such adversity to finish shows an amazing amount of preserverance, determination, and pure guts! Way to go guys! Oh and for those of you who didn’t know… Topper is really a Terminator. True story.
A Terminator with a taste for Scotch, you mean.
I’m totally gonna find a way to say “Come with me if you want to live” during the race in November.
I love Scotch!
Great Job to everyone in their respective races! With the heat it was a challenging day all around. Everyone made it through and earned their beer at the end.
Let’s get a big group together for the November Tough Mudder, Mud Sweat & Beers will ride again.
Ok, I’m jealous…I’m totally up for the next tough mudder…and Topper, we should start some kind of a trail running club thingy…
Already on the case Julia.
THats a great idea julia, alright topper you got me I am in for the next one!
The November race is longer, right? Not sure if I could do that distance, but I will be your most loyal volunteer and supporter and beer pourer.
You can do it, Joanna! A) you have 6+ months to train, and B) lots of people walked a good portion of the course this weekend. It’s not about the race – it’s about the challenge!
Joanna, you could totally do it. Come join the team!
Wellll…. okay. Reason #72 that I love CFSP – endless motivation and support.
Congratulations to all the Tough Mudders!!! I am limping around with an old knee injury from doing the Broad Street Run on Sunday, but am looking forward to getting back and to CFSP next week and congratulating everyone in person! By the way, Nicole has peer pressured me to join the team for November! Egads!!!
If you’d like to train with us for the November Tough Mudder, Topper has volunteered to lead trail runs! The first is this Sunday (5/9/10) at Wissahickon, Valley green.
Please note that it is more than “just” a trail run — you will need towels a change of clothes, and there is a chance that you may come into contact with poison ivy.
Please email me for more info about the trail runs / training team.
I wont be able to make this trail run on 5/9 but I will definitely make the next one!!
Hey guys, any advice on how to deal with poison ivy? I’m not very familiar with it (besides the fact that it is bad…) Also, what are your recommendation for clothes that don’t retain water and regulate your body temp…thanks. See you Sunday!
poison ivy: wash off with soap and water right after the run. unfortunately, i didnt wash off thoroughly enough after Sunday and got it anyway. clothes that don’t retain water, etc.: anything wicking, no cotton.
